Professions matter more in WoW: Forever than in Classic. Blizzard added more than 600 new recipes, a camping system where every profession places its own camp object, crafted food that can give a small experience bonus, and advanced Blueprint recipes that drop from dungeon bosses. This guide covers the rules Blizzard has published and what the game client itself contains for each profession.
How many professions can you learn?
- Two primary professions: the gathering professions Mining, Herbalism and Skinning, and the crafting professions Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Enchanting, Engineering, Leatherworking and Tailoring.
- All three secondary professions: Cooking, Fishing and First Aid.
- Learn a profession from a trainer out in the world or in a major city. To drop one, open the Professions tab (K) and click the X next to it.
- Ranks still go Apprentice, Journeyman, Expert and Artisan. The Professions tab shows each recipe's materials and whether crafting it will still raise your skill.
Every profession at a glance
Camp objects and recipe counts come from the WoW: Forever client (build 1.60.1.70532, October 21, 2026). “New” means a recipe that did not exist in Classic. Counts leave out Season of Discovery recipes and recipes whose crafted item is not in the client yet.
| Profession | Type | Camp objects (skill) | Recipes (new in Forever) | Guide |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Engineering | Primary, crafting | Reagent Bot (20), Repair Bot (140), Anarchist's Workbench (300) | 240 (75) | Engineering guide |
| Tailoring | Primary, crafting | Faction Banner (20), Spinning Wheel (140), Loom (300) | 400 (166) | Tailoring guide |
| Blacksmithing | Primary, crafting | Sharpening Wheel (20), Anvil (140), Master Forge (300) | 416 (177) | Blacksmithing guide |
| Leatherworking | Primary, crafting | Camp Tent (20), Tanning Rack (140), Sewing Machine (300) | 479 (238) | Leatherworking guide |
| Alchemy | Primary, crafting | Mana Well (20), Fermenter (140), Alchemy Laboratory (300) | 179 (70) | Alchemy guide |
| Enchanting | Primary, crafting | Enchanted Lute (20), Arcane Salvager (140), Arcane Forge (300) | 221 (71) | Enchanting guide |
| Mining | Primary, gathering | Lodestone (20), Rock Garden (140), Molten Foundry (300) | – | Gathering guide |
| Herbalism | Primary, gathering | Incense Candle (20), Greenhouse (140), Seed Hybridizer (300) | – | Gathering guide |
| Skinning | Primary, gathering | Camp Chair (20), Field Guide (140), Trapper's Workbench (300) | – | Gathering guide |
| Cooking | Secondary | Basic Campfire (1), Journeyman Campfire (95), Cookie's Feast (145), Expert Campfire (205), Iron Oven (300) | 123 (42) | Cooking guide |
| First Aid | Secondary | First Aid Kit (20), Toxin Study (140), Plague Doctor's Laboratory (300) | 32 (19) | First Aid guide |
| Fishing | Secondary | Fish Bowl (20), Fishing Rack (140), Fishing Hut (300) | – | Gathering guide |
Mining, Herbalism, Skinning and Fishing have no crafting recipes beyond their camp objects (Mining's smelting recipes aside), so they share one gathering guide. Enchanting counts both enchantments and the items enchanters make. Across the eight crafting and secondary professions, the client has 858 new recipes, which fits Blizzard's “more than 600”.
Camp objects: three per profession
Blizzard published one sample camp feature per profession and said each profession has three, learned at different skill levels. The client confirms the full set in the table above: for every profession except Cooking they unlock at skill 20, 140 and 300. The first comes from starter zone quests or the profession trainer; Blizzard says items that need skill 140 or more come from Blueprint drops in dungeons and raids. Cooking instead has upgraded campfires (Journeyman at 95, Expert at 205) that hold more camp features, plus Cookie's Feast and the Iron Oven. What each camp feature does is on the camping guide.
Camp objects are also crafting stations
The game data shows a second job for the 140 and 300 camp objects: many advanced recipes can only be made next to one. In the client:
- Engineering: 18 recipes need an Anarchist's Workbench
- Tailoring: 74 recipes need a Spinning Wheel, 27 recipes need a Loom
- Blacksmithing: 42 recipes need a Master Forge
- Leatherworking: 48 recipes need a Tanning Rack, 59 recipes need a Sewing Machine
- Alchemy: 5 recipes need a Fermenter
- Enchanting: 10 recipes need an Arcane Forge
- Mining: 1 recipes need a Molten Foundry
- Cooking: 18 recipes need an Iron Oven
Blizzard has only said this outright for the Leatherworking Tanning Rack. Several of these recipes existed in Classic without a workstation, so check the “Needs” line on each recipe in the profession guides.
Legacy perks for professions
The Legacy system has a whole Professions tree, and its challenges ask you to reach skill 150, 225 and 300 in crafting professions. The Professions perks are:
- Working Overtime: Increases your chance to gain a skill point in all tradeskills, including class-specific ones like Lockpicking.
- Bountiful Harvest: Helps you find additional Scarce resources when mining, herbing, or skinning.
- Bartering: Reduces the gold price of items purchased from vendors.
- Performance Bonus: Sometimes grants increased Merchant's Favor from the Azeroth Commerce Authority or Durotar Supply and Logistics.
- Master Chef: Chance for your cooking recipes to produce additional results.
- Luremaster: Chance to fish up extra fish.
- Dedicated Study: A daily cooldown to raise tradeskills faster, or gain free Elemental Essences once they are all at 300.
Choosing professions
The usual pairing still applies, because the materials in the client are the same families as in Classic: Mining feeds Blacksmithing and Engineering, Herbalism feeds Alchemy, Skinning feeds Leatherworking, and Tailoring and Enchanting work from cloth that drops from humanoids and from gear you disenchant. Two things are new to weigh in Forever: which camp buff your group is missing, and the Legacy perks above if you plan to level alts.
What is not confirmed yet
- Where recipes are sold or drop, and trainer costs. That data is on Blizzard's servers, not in the client.
- Which bosses drop the Blueprint recipes for camp objects at skill 140 and 300.
- Tested leveling routes for each profession. We will add them after launch on November 4.
