The Legacy System is WoW: Forever's account-wide progression. You earn Legacy Points by completing Legacy Challenges, such as leveling a class to 25 or raising a profession to 300, and every character on your account can spend them on perks. At launch there are 65 challenges, one point each, and each character can spend up to 16 points. Tick off what you have done below to see where you stand.

How Legacy Points work
- Unlocking: the system opens when you earn your first Legacy Point. For most players that is the first character to reach level 25, but reaching 150 in a non-gathering primary profession or exploring the whole world map also does it. Open it with the shield icon on the menu or the default Y key.
- Points are account-wide across your Battle.net account and across rulesets, except Hardcore (see below).
- Spending is per character. Each character spends the shared pool separately in its own perk trees, so an alt can specialize differently from your main.
- Spending cap: 16 per character at launch. You can keep earning beyond that; extra points count toward the reward track.
- Changing perks: visit a class trainer in a major city, the same place you change normal talents.
Do you need alts?
No. Blizzard designed the cap so a single character can reach it. One character can earn up to 29 points alone:
| Source on one character | Max points | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Leveling your class | 3 | Levels 25, 45 and 60 |
| Professions | 6 | Two primary professions × 150, 225 and 300 (gathering professions do not count) |
| PvP | 12 | Five ranks, four battleground reputations, three season journey quests |
| Adventure | 2 | World map exploration and the Lord Valthalak questline |
| Dungeons and raids | 6 | Three dungeon brackets and three raids |
| Total | 29 | Above the 16-point cap |
Alts still help. Each new class you level adds up to 3 points, and other crafting professions add up to 3 each, which matters for the reward track and for future cap increases.
Legacy perk planner
Plan how one character spends its Legacy Points. The three perk trees, every perk's ranks, the row requirements (5 and 10 points in a tree) and the 16-point cap per character are read from the WoW: Forever client data (build 1.60.1.70532). Each rank costs 1 point. Hover a perk for its exact effect at each rank.

Legacy reward track
Separate from perks, your total Legacy Points unlock account-wide cosmetic rewards with no competitive advantage. The spending cap does not apply here, so every point you earn counts. Blizzard's Legacy article shows four rewards for launch:
| Points | Reward | Type |
|---|---|---|
| 15 | Replica Ironforge Air Rifle | Toy |
| 25 | Spectral Bear Cub | Pet |
| 40 | Spectral Bear Tabard | Tabard |
| 55 | Reins of the Spectral Bear | Mount |
The thresholds come from the Progress Track screenshot in Blizzard's article (below), taken before launch. The Replica Ironforge Air Rifle is a toy for a shootout game that stuns other players and keeps score.

Legacy and Hardcore
- Challenges you complete on Normal, PvP or Roleplaying do not appear in Hardcore.
- A challenge completed in Hardcore is granted on all other rulesets.
- Because PvP challenges cannot be done in Hardcore, Hardcore will launch with 12 extra Hardcore-specific challenges.
What comes next
Blizzard plans new Legacy Challenges with every content release, new perks in the existing trees, new trees later, higher spending caps and more rewards. We will update the tracker when new challenges are announced.
