Camping is one of WoW: Forever’s new systems. The Cooking profession’s simple Cooking Fire becomes a Basic Campfire, and other players can add profession-made camp features around it. Sit by the fire for a minute and you pick up one-hour buffs from every feature placed there. It is designed to make you stop, meet other players and share what your professions can do.

How it works

  1. Someone with Cooking places a Basic Campfire. A quest early in your adventure introduces the system.
  2. Up to three other players can each add one camp feature to a Basic Campfire. Cooks can later learn upgraded campfires that hold five or ten features.
  3. Players who sit or craft at the campsite for at least 1 minute gain the benefits of the features there. Blizzard ties this to becoming rested before you head back out.
  4. All camp features need a campfire nearby and share a 1-hour cooldown.
  5. Campfire buffs last one hour. They are variants of class buffs and do not stack with the class buff they mirror.

Campsites can also provide vendors, repairs and profession workspaces, and they are a natural place to refresh food buffs.

Camp features by profession

Blizzard’s BlizzCon panel described the Blacksmithing Sharpening Wheel as increasing Attack Power, while the later official camping article lists Strength. We show the newer article’s wording.

Unlocking camp features

Which professions help most at camp?

Every camp buff has a class equivalent it does not stack with. That makes camping most useful when your group is missing a class buff, for example no Priest for Fortitude or no Paladin for Kings. If your group already has the class buff, the matching camp feature adds nothing. The Leatherworking Camp Tent, Engineering Reagent Bot and Cooking campfire upgrades have no class equivalent, so they always help.

Camping and Legacy perks

Two Legacy perks affect camping: Field Guide reduces the 1-hour cooldown on placing camp features, and Permanence makes party, raid and camping buffs last longer. Reagent Economy also lets tier 1 camping features be crafted with no materials.

Camping on a PvP ruleset

Blizzard is clear that some places in Azeroth are safer than others to rest, and that on a PvP ruleset enemy players may come across your camp. Pick sheltered spots when you play on PvP.
