WoW Forever vs Classic: What Changed

Checked against official sources ·

Image: Blizzard Entertainment

If you have played Classic Era, Anniversary, Hardcore or Season of Discovery, WoW: Forever will feel familiar in the first ten minutes and different by level 20. The combat pace, the 60 level cap and the old continents stay. Almost everything you build around them changes. This page lists what is different and what is deliberately kept the same, all from Blizzard’s own posts.

What stays the same

Blizzard built Forever around four pillars: approachable and familiar, the world as the main character, the journey before the destination, and protecting the social experience. In practice that means:

The world: new places to go

Classic Forever
New zones – Zephras Isle (1–12), Riverglades (mid-30s to mid-40s, 150+ quests), Mount Hyjal (endgame leveling), Shen’dralas (between Mulgore and Desolace)
Quests Original 1,000+ new quests across levels 1–60; many old quest rewards updated for more classes
Dungeons Original Original plus 9 new ones, from level 13 to 60 (list)
First raids Molten Core, Onyxia Barrow Deeps (10 players), Hyjal Summit (20), Onyxia’s Lair (40) on December 9 (details)
Battlegrounds Warsong Gulch, Arathi Basin, Alterac Valley New: Darkspear Islands, a 15v15 map for levels 30–60 (PvP)
Visuals Original HD or SD models, Classic or modern presets, improved lighting

Anti-farming changes

Blizzard tightened several mechanics gold farmers and boosters relied on: shorter Cone of Cold, a weaker Improved Blizzard slow, and lower proc chances for talents when you cast spells of a much lower rank. If your Classic gold plan was AoE farming as Frost, expect it to work differently.
