The Paladin in WoW: Forever keeps the Seal and Judgement system from original World of Warcraft, but almost every part of it has been reworked. Judgement no longer eats your Seal, Protection gets a real taunt, Consecration is now baseline for everyone, and Seal Twisting moves from a swing-timer trick into a talent. This page summarizes Blizzard’s official class deep dive so you know what is different before you level.

Plan your build: the WoW Forever Paladin talent calculator uses the full talent trees from the game client’s own data, with every rank, row requirement and tooltip.
For the first time the Horde can play Paladins: Undead (Forsaken) Paladins are one of the six new race and class combinations in Forever. Dwarf and Human Paladins remain available to the Alliance.
Baseline changes every Paladin gets
These apply no matter which talent tree you pick:
- Holy Strike (new, level 6). An instant strike that deals Holy damage based on half of your weapon damage, with bonus damage that grows with each rank. Blizzard’s panel described it as having a 12-second cooldown.
- Judgement no longer consumes your Seal. In Classic, judging meant recasting your Seal every time. In Forever the Seal stays up, which removes a lot of busywork.
- Seal of Fury (new, level 10). A tanking Seal. Each melee swing deals a flat amount of bonus Holy damage (so fast weapons benefit most), you gain a small absorb shield worth half of that damage, and judging this Seal deals extra Holy damage and taunts the target. Because the taunt comes from Judgement, it has a 10-yard range, compared with 5 yards for Growl and Taunt.
- Consecration is baseline at level 20. It is no longer a Holy talent. It now hits the first 4 enemies that enter it for moderate damage and everything else for very little, so a Paladin can hold threat on about 4 targets, in line with a Warrior’s Thunder Clap.
- Righteous Fury gives less bonus threat than before, because Protection now has more Holy damage to work with.
- Salvation is no longer a Blessing, so it can sit on a target alongside another Blessing. The raid-wide version is renamed Mass Salvation. Blizzard flagged this change as coming in a later build.
- Resistance auras (Fire, Frost, Shadow) now affect all raid members within 30 yards.
- Lay on Hands cooldown drops from 1 hour to 20 minutes.
- Classic-style Seal Twisting is gone as a baseline mechanic. It returns in a friendlier form through the Retribution capstone talent Twist of Light (see below).
Talent structure
Talents start at level 10. Each tree keeps the familiar shape, with one-point “gold medal” talents at 11, 21 and 31 points, plus a new gold medal at 16 points. You change talents, including Legacy talents, at a class trainer in a major city, and Dual Specialization unlocks at level 40.
Holy
- Holy Shock moves up from the 31-point slot to the 21-point slot, and its cooldown drops from 30 to 10 seconds.
- Divine Favor becomes the 16-point gold medal.
- Voice of Truth (new 11-point gold medal): 6 seconds of immunity to Silence and Interrupt on a 3-minute cooldown.
- Reverence (new): up to 30% of your Spirit-based mana regeneration continues while casting.
- Infusion of Light (new): crits from Holy Shock or Flash of Light shorten your next Holy Light cast by up to 1 second. Blizzard added it so Holy Paladins are not stuck spamming Flash of Light.
- Illumination can now also trigger from Light’s Vigil, but its refund is reduced to 50% of the base cost of the heal.
- Divine Precision (new, requires Holy Shock): up to 18% hit chance with Holy spells, because plate healing gear will not carry hit.
- Light’s Vigil (new 31-point gold medal): a 1.5-second cast that marks an ally or enemy. Your next Holy Shock on that target does not trigger its cooldown. On an enemy it adds Holy damage and refunds most of the cost; on an ally it heals that ally’s whole party. Blizzard’s example is pre-placing it on several raid groups and then chaining Holy Shocks when the raid takes heavy damage.
- Consecration, Improved Blessing of Wisdom and Lasting Judgement are now baseline instead of talents.
Protection
- Improved Seal of Fury (new 11-point gold medal): restores mana whenever a Seal of Fury shield is fully used up, more so against higher-level attackers such as raid bosses.
- Swift Judgement (new 16-point gold medal): instantly finishes your Judgement cooldown and makes the next one free. It exists so a resisted taunt does not end the pull.
- Templar’s Bulwark (new 21-point gold medal): an absorb shield equal to 100% of your maximum health for 8 seconds on a 5-minute cooldown. It applies Forbearance.
- Holy Shield now requires Templar’s Bulwark.
- Reckoning can now also trigger from blocks (up to 40% chance), at most once every 1.5 seconds. Blizzard noted known issues with stacking charges that it plans to fix.
- Iron Creed (new): more threat from Holy Strike, and with Righteous Fury active a Holy Strike briefly reduces damage taken.
- Improved Righteous Fury now reduces damage taken instead of adding threat. Shield Specialization can restore mana on block. Redoubt is redesigned to trigger on any hit.
- Blessing of Sanctuary and Improved Concentration Aura are removed; Blessing of Kings is now baseline.
Retribution
- Sacred Arbiter (new 16-point gold medal): Holy Strike deals more damage and refreshes every Judgement on the target, including other Paladins’ Judgements. Blizzard’s example: with several Paladins judging, one Retribution Paladin can keep Judgement of Wisdom, Judgement of Light and Judgement of the Crusader all active on the same target.
- Repentance moves down to the 21-point slot.
- Vengeance is redesigned to last 30 seconds and stack up to 3 times, for steadier damage.
- Champion of the Light (new): adds spell damage based on part of your Intellect. Blizzard lowered the value during beta and limited it to damage so Holy-heavy hybrid builds would not become too strong.
- Instrument of Law (new): makes Hammer of Wrath instant and lowers your threat while Righteous Fury is off.
- Twist of Light (new 31-point gold medal): cheaper Seals, and when you replace a damage Seal it leaves an “Echo” so your next swing gets both Seals. This is Forever’s version of Seal Twisting without needing a swing-timer add-on.
- Improved Retribution Aura and Sanctity Aura are removed.
Strengths and weaknesses, according to Blizzard
Blizzard’s summary is that Paladins can be highly effective tanks, competitive damage dealers and the strongest single-target healers in the game. They stay especially strong against Undead and Demons. The limits are deliberate: no interrupt, no way to slow enemies, and limited range. A Holy Paladin can talk itself into a hybrid “Shockadin” build through Holy Shock, Divine Precision and Light’s Vigil, and Blizzard placed Holy Shock as a direct alternative to Twist of Light for players who do not want to Seal Twist.
What is not confirmed yet
- Exact numbers. Blizzard warned that abilities and talents could change through beta, and several items above were described as “coming in a future build”.
- Exact per-level damage and healing numbers in some talent tooltips; these scale with your character, so our Paladin talent calculator shows them as formulas or dashes.
- Best-in-slot gear. Raids open on December 9, and we will only publish gear lists once items can be checked in game.
