Warlocks in WoW: Forever keep their demons, curses and Soul Shards, but every tree is rebuilt around a clearer playstyle and Blizzard says all three now compete with any other caster. Curse of Agony and Curse of Doom become Banes, pets scale with your stats, and each tree gets a new capstone. This page summarizes Blizzard’s official class deep dive.

Troll Warlocks are new in Forever.
Baseline changes every Warlock gets
- Banes: Curse of Agony and Curse of Doom become Bane of Agony and Bane of Doom. Each Warlock can have only one Bane on a target. Anything that interacted with Curses also interacts with Banes.
- Curse of the Elements now covers all magic damage. Curse of Shadows is removed.
- Firestone and Spellstone are now weapon imbues that stack with temporary enchants such as wizard oil. Firestone adds Fire damage and crit; Spellstone adds Shadow damage and spell haste.
- Life Tap scales with Spirit, and its tooltip now states the amount correctly.
- Drain Soul has a rising chance per tick to give a Soul Shard until it is guaranteed.
- Pets scale from your stats.
Talent structure
Talents start at level 10 with gold medal talents at 11, 16 (new), 21 and 31 points. Respec at a class trainer in a major city; Dual Specialization unlocks at level 40.
Affliction
- Wrack (new 31-point gold medal): a channel that deals Shadow damage every second and makes the target take 10% more from your other Shadow damage-over-time effects for 6 seconds. Blizzard designed it as Affliction’s main filler between refreshing DoTs and Nightfall Shadow Bolts.
- Curse of Exhaustion becomes the 16-point gold medal and slows by 30%.
- Pandemic (new): up to 100% more crit damage on your DoTs and drains, so Affliction now benefits fully from critical strikes.
- Soul Siphon (new): drains deal more for each of your other Affliction spells on the target, up to 36%.
- Malediction, Improved Drains and Malevolence (new) add periodic damage, drain power and Shadow crit. Suppression now adds hit and lowers threat.
- Nightfall can also trigger from Drain Soul and Wrack. Improved Drain Soul is renamed Soul Harvest.
- Removed: Improved Curse of Weakness, Improved Drain Life, Improved Drain Mana, Improved Curse of Exhaustion, Grim Reach, Dark Pact.
Demonology
- Demonic Sacrifice becomes the 11-point gold medal. Sacrifice buffs last 2 hours and are reshuffled: Imp for Shadow damage, Voidwalker for mana, Succubus or Incubus for Fire damage, Felhunter for health.
- Fel Domination becomes the 16-point gold medal; Soul Link moves up to the 21-point gold medal.
- Demonic Pact (new 31-point gold medal, requires Soul Link): summoning a different demon no longer cancels your Demonic Sacrifice, so you can have Demonic Sacrifice and Master Demonologist at the same time for the first time.
- Master Demonologist is redesigned: Imp boosts Fire damage, Voidwalker reduces Physical damage taken, Succubus or Incubus boosts Shadow damage, Felhunter reduces Magic damage taken.
- Decimation (new): cheaper, faster Soul Fire against targets below 35% health. Demonic Brand (new): Searing Pain empowers your pet’s next 2 attacks, with high threat only for tanking pets like the Voidwalker.
- Demonic Knowledge, Fel Vitality, Demonic Energies, Demonic Aegis and Improved Felhunter (new) strengthen you and your demon.
- Removed: Improved Healthstone, Fel Intellect, Fel Stamina, Improved Subjugate Demon, Improved Firestone, Improved Spellstone.
Destruction
- Incinerate (new 31-point gold medal, requires Bane of Havoc): a 2.5-second Fire spell that deals 25% more if the target has your Immolate.
- Bane of Havoc (new 21-point gold medal): for 5 minutes, 15% of your damage to other targets is also dealt to the target with this Bane.
- Conflagrate moves up to the 16-point gold medal. Shadow and Flame (new) links Conflagrate and Shadowburn buffs, and can keep Immolate and refund Soul Shards.
- Destructive Reach moves to row 1 and applies to all damaging spells, so every spec can reach it. Ruin moves up to row 3.
- Molten Skin (new): up to 10% less damage taken. Aftermath boosts Immolate and lets Conflagrate daze.
- Removed: Improved Firebolt, Improved Lash of Pain, Devastation, Improved Immolate, Emberstorm.
Strengths and weaknesses, according to Blizzard
Affliction now uses damage over time and drains with full crit support and can sustain its own health. Demonology empowers both you and your demon while the enemy focuses the pet. Destruction mixes Shadowburn, Conflagrate and Incinerate with Bane of Havoc for cleave. Warlocks are still physically weak and depend on their demons for protection.
What is not confirmed yet
- Exact per-level damage and healing numbers in some talent tooltips; these scale with your character, so our Warlock talent calculator shows them as formulas or dashes.
- Demon quest lines and where to learn each pet in Forever; we will add them once confirmed in game.
- Gear lists, which depend on launch and on raids opening December 9.
